However, she criticized its conflicting tone, equally well equally several repetitive and frustrating missions. She wrote that the Zombies was the standout fashion in the game, which helped strike "a rewarding residual for the diehard zombies fans [...] and those that just want to jump in and have a good time", although criticized that the experience suffered when playing with other people.[37]

Destructoid 's Chris Moyse praised the game as a "satisfying feel" and the campaign every bit "one of the series' all-time in some time", but felt that "information technology also makes little try to overhaul the brand equally a whole, playing information technology incredibly condom when the opportunity for reinvention was right there for the taking."[29] Polygon 's Russ Frushtick by and large praised the multiplayer, calling it "potent and enjoyable", but criticized the campaign, writing that "but about every mission feels similar déjà vu, as if I'd played information technology before in another game" and that "Changing the time catamenia so dramatically simply helps to highlight how little has changed since the franchise's total re-imagining with Call of Duty four."[39] Jeff Gerstmann of Giant Flop was more disquisitional of the game every bit a whole, stating that "despite all of Activision'south big talk about "boots on the ground" action and how this was going to be some big bargain, the setting alter didn't bring whatsoever new and exciting inspiration with it. This feels like the nigh wheel-spinning, by-the-numbers Call of Duty they've made thus far."[36]

Eurogamer ranked the game 38th on their list of the "Top 50 Games of 2017",[xl] while EGMNow ranked information technology 20th in their listing of the 25 Best Games of 2017.[41] The game was nominated for "Best Shooter", "All-time Graphics", "Best Multiplayer" and "All-time Spectator Game" in IGN'southward Best of 2017 Awards.[42] [43] [44] [45]

Swatting incident [edit]

Not long after WWII was released, a fatal incident occurred in which Ohio resident Casey Viner, angered over friendly fire that ruined an online match in a tournament that cost $one.fifty in betting, threatened to swat his teammate, Wichita resident Shane Gaskill. Gaskill posted his previous dwelling house address in McCormick and challenged Viner to swat him. Viner contacted Los Angeles resident Tyler Barriss, who chosen the Wichita Law Section (WPD) challenge to have murdered his father and taken his mother and sibling hostage. He provided them with the McCormick accost used by Gaskill. WPD officers arrived at the address, at present occupied by 28-yr-old Andrew Finch, and shot and killed Finch when he reached for his waistband.[69]
